Major Sound With Minor Budgets theory…
A lot of artists tell me they are serious, but I don’t listen to their words. the real proof is pudding…
I look at their actions, yes, I look to see if they’re really pushing themselves. We all can be laid back at times.
When I can see myself doing more for your career, I mean the simple things. Some artists don’t promote their projects and get simple professional CD cover done. I hear some great music but the audio recording or mixing is awful. Then they get mad at the radio stations, PD’s or Deejay’s that won’t play it. You shouldn’t want it played anywhere, if it’s not right. Everybody has Instagram or some Cam app, you can’t use that as your professional cam either. Simple and constant is done always put your best foot forward over and over again.
You can’t look like a million bucks on IG, FB and Twitter, and you barely invested a hundred for your music career.
– Investing in yourself is not just a money thing(Mech, Promotions, Marketing)
– Time is more valuable than money, wasted time can’t be recouped
– The Studio is not a party, treat it as business…
– Knowing your song’s lyric without paper, tablet or phone
– You always give 150% and then some… aim for perfection
– No one can push you, you must believe in your craft
– Have you done drops or promos for Radio Stations, Shows Deejays or
– Plan goals, set deadlines
– Be original, rare and forward thinking
– Nothing in life is free
– Business is not a friendship driven
– Respect is earned over time
– Knowing your real worth will make you want to invest in your career.
– Are performing at open mics and building your stage presence
– Do you spend more time on video games, social media or chilling with the “crew” than your music.
– Are you becoming better or just happy with your placement and title, “best artist in your city”
We have been fooled by mainstream media, music careers don’t come falling in your hands. Making music into an income is not simple but it’s not rocket science either. It does take time, patience and some form of a budget… yes, a budget. You must not think that studios, promoters, club owners or graphic designers owes you nothing. This is YOUR BRAND, COMPANY or PROJECT, so don’t think about it as investing in yourself, but building stock in your business.
You as the Artist are beginning of business, think about how many people are employed off one artist like Kanye or Diddy… over 100 employees with different companies, from a brand that sustain a business model that generates more business and builds companies.
